Contraceptive pills flushed into drains causing fish to turn transgender (VIDEO)
A British toxicologist found that chemicals leaking into the water supply make up fish population.
A number of male river fish in the UK would have become intersex or transgendered, and now male and female characteristics appear, according to a study by the University of Exeter.
The changes are caused by the chemicals from birth control pills, cleaning products, plastics and cosmetics that make the water system after being evacuated.
Twenty percent of the male fish tested at 50 sites exhibited less competitive mating behavior and reduced sperm quality, even with eggs, even producers.
The offspring of these trans fish may also be more sensitive to the effects of chemicals in later shows.
Professor Charles Tyler’s research was entitled “The Feminization of Nature – a Natural History” and served during the opening of the 50th Anniversary Symposium Conference of the Fisheries Society in the British Isles.
Fish biologists from around the world gather at the symposium to discuss other threats to fish stocks and the way the fish are treated.
